Monkeys out Moneys in

Never have I thought painting can be so exhausting but yet fulfilling. The Three Wise Monkeys charity project in collaboration with Pavilion KL just feels that way. All the hard work put in for the month long painting sessions in January finally paid off handsomely. Selling the monkeys was equally challenging as we had to source out all contacts be it individual or corporate. This time around Pavilion KL’s team did a superb job at sell pushing as many monkeys as possible so that maximum donation amount can be achieved. Bravo to them for the effort!

A closing ceremony for the Three Wise Monkeys charity project was held at Pavilion KL on 29th March 2016. It was graced by Puan Sri Cindy Lim, deputy chairman of Pavilion KL and many invited generous donors. APOH committee members (Jimmy Lim, Doreen, Engu, Mok Jee Sang, Capt. Lim, Tatt Boon, Ted) were also present to lend support. Representatives of the 9 children based NGOs supported by APOH in the past, also came to be part of the event.

In the event, it was unveiled that a total of RM600,000 was collected. A large amount indeed for a first time joint collaborative effort of APOH with Pavilion KL. Puan Sri Cindy Lim in her speech mentioned that it is truly an unexpected success to have reached such an amount in all of Pavilion KL’s CSR projects. She later unveiled Pavilion KL’s ‘Charity At Heart’ logo which will to be used for all their CSR projects in future.

So, monkeys out moneys in. The amount collected will be fairly distributed by Pavilion KL among the 9 children based NGOs, selected old folks homes and other NGOs from up coming Pavilion KL’s CSR projects.

Once again, a great big THANK YOU to Nippon Paint for sponsoring their paints in such wonderful colours. A note of appreciation to project partners Tenmoku Pottery and Art Venture Resources for creating the monkeys for us to paint. A resounding applause to SJKC Choong Wen for lending their canteen to us to conduct mass painting sessions.

With the closing of the Three Wise Monkeys charity project, APOH’s charity initiatives is not at its end but just beginning, for other projects.

Lets monkey around instead of climbing mountains

Climbing Mt. Kinabalu will always be our first love. This mountain has been scaled by many APOHer through the 9 years of A Piece Of Hope charity campaign. Many fond memories will definitely stay with the 1,500 odd climbers that has reached its peak or somewhere in between. These climbers in a way are our APOH Heroes whom have helped contribute or raise funds for charity, your participation and effort is applauded.

For the past years of climbing Mt. Kinabalu plus an inaugural Fun Run & Walk in 2014, APOH has helped to raise more than RM1,600,000 in cash for 9 children support type NGOs in and around the Klang Valley. Last year, our Mt. Kinabalu climb was canceled due to a magnitude 6.0 earthquake that struck the mountain, but that didn’t stop us from raising funds. A total of RM120,000 was raised first for the 4 perished mountain guides’ families and then for Persatuan Insan Istimewa Cheras Selangor. Now going into the 10th year, APOH committee members have decided to raise funds in a totally different way since organising to climb Mt. Kinabalu now poses many logistical obstacles (alas we will definitely climb it again).

Never have it occur to us that we would turn to our softer self (since climbing mountains is deemed to be hard and tougher self) by painting monkey figurines for charity. Creativity is needed and not strength or endurance. A target is set to paint not a dozen but 3,000 monkeys!! This a figure that gets one’s hand shaking and another numb just by thinking of it. An ambitious plan indeed.

In collaboration with Pavilion KL, the THREE WISE MONKEYS charity campaign is another milestone for APOH. Planned and set in conjunction with Chinese New Year 2016, this charity campaign hope to raise RM500,000 for the 9 children based NGOs supported by APOH in the past (the list can be found at the end of this article).

The sale of the THREE WISE MONKEYS has started and is gaining momentum even as the monkeys are being painted and delivered in stages. So far over 300 children (including children from the NGOs) and adults have helped in one way or another to carefully paint these monkeys in several locations around KL.

Members of the public who would like to donate or buy the THREE WISE MONKEYS collection sets can contact Pavilion KL at 03-2118 8843 or go to the mall itself. Alternatively, you can contact any of the APOH committee members through WhatsApp (012-3667999, 012-3353055, 012-2020511, 012-3006161, 012-2082351, 012-2016121) or email us at apieceofhope@gmail.com.

Price of these cute and creatively painted monkeys are from RM388 per set of 3 monkeys.
